SENIOR THESIS CAPSTONE
My senior thesis capstone focused convergence of knitwear with art of couture fashion. I completed an in-depth exploration of knitwear in the realm of couture, a previously unexplored avenue. I identified a unique opportunity and then created a brand to fill this market gap. The brand was modeled on a system of collaboration with living artists to create wearable art for a couture client each season. As part of the project, my research identified the appropriate potential client for the brand and mapped out a marketing strategy to target and engage prospective clients.
For the garment design of my thesis, I drew inspiration from artist Jason Martin’s ground-breaking exhibit of PAINTING AS SCULPTURE. His exploration of movement combined with the fusing of painting and sculpture created a unique perspective on the intersection of painting and sculpture as art forms. My collection of couture knitwear drew inspiration from his work to evoke a sense of movement through unexpected space.
My senior thesis capstone was awarded three prestigious school awards, including the DIRECTOR’S CHOICE AWARD, which is given by the Director of the School of Design to one graduating senior each year of the school each year for best senior capstone project; the LPK CRYSTAL BALL AWARD, which is given by the School of Design faculty to one senior in each major, for faculty-selected best senior capstone project; and the FASHION DESIGN STUDENT ASSOCIATION AWARD, which is given for the best senior capstone project in the fashion design major as selected by the students.
